The BMX Legend Who Art Directed Terrible One Just Designed a Bike

When Fairdale drop a collab bike, there's usually a good story behind it. This one's no different. The Sieben x Fairdale Weekender Nomad MX is a limited edition artist bike - and the name behind it carries serious weight in BMX circles.

Who Is Michael Sieben?

If you were deep into BMX in the mid-2000s, there's a decent chance Michael Sieben's artwork was already part of your world - you just might not have known his name. Taj Mihelich, Fairdale's founder and one of the most influential BMX riders of his generation, gave Sieben his first ever art job - hiring him as art director at Terrible One back in 2005. Sieben went on to bridge the gap between Austin's skate and BMX scenes for years through his work at T1, before eventually founding Roger Skateboards and building a reputation as one of the most distinctive illustrators in action sports.

Based in Austin, Texas, Sieben is a professional designer and illustrator whose work has been exhibited and reviewed worldwide. His style is instantly recognisable - quirky, detailed, and deeply rooted in the culture he came up in. Fairdale have been fans for a long time, and with this collab, the connection between Sieben, Taj, and the wider BMX world comes full circle.

The Bike

The canvas for all this is the Weekender Nomad MX - Fairdale's top-of-the-line Weekender and arguably their most capable model. It's a fun, practical, BMX-inspired bike built to travel. While it handles weekday commuting on rough city roads without complaint, it really shines when you take it further afield. The 100% 4130 chromoly steel frame and fork will take virtually anything you throw at it - and the rack and fender mounts mean you can load it up for the long haul too.

The redesigned geometry is built around 27.5 x 2.1" (650b) tyres, giving you confidence and cushion on rougher surfaces while keeping that punchy, playful feel that comes from Fairdale's BMX roots. M/L frames are also fully compatible with 700c wheels if you ever want to switch it up for road use.

Premium Spec.

Fairdale didn't cut corners on the build, and it shows at every touch point:

  • SRAM Apex 1x11-speed drivetrain — Wide gear range, single chainring simplicity. No front derailleur, no fuss.
  • Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes — Consistent, reliable stopping power in all conditions, front and rear.
  • Continental semi-knobby 27.5" x 2.1" tyres — Rolls fast on pavement, grips confidently on dirt and gravel.
  • Fairdale MX-4 chromoly handlebar & Sunday Freeze stem — A cockpit that feels at home whether you're mashing through traffic or cruising a fire road.
  • Odyssey Twisted PC pedals — A classic, grippy platform pedal trusted by riders everywhere.
  • Tubeless-compatible double wall rims, 32h sealed hubs — Ready for a tubeless setup whenever you're ready to make the switch.

The Artist Graphics

Then there's the colourway. Gloss Turquoise with original Sieben artwork — this isn't a sticker slapped on a standard colourway. The graphics are a proper part of what makes this bike special, and they look every bit as good in person as they do in photos. It's a limited run, and once it's gone, it's gone.

The Verdict

A proper all-rounder with real BMX heritage, a world-class component spec, and artwork from someone who helped define the visual identity of early 2000s BMX. The Sieben x Fairdale Weekender Nomad MX is the kind of bike that earns its price tag - and one of those rare limited editions that's actually worth caring about.
